Colja a history

Wine growing is our tradition. Our ancestors have already tried to grow best possible from the earth. The oldest preserved written record about this activity extends into the year 1908, when grandpa Franc became a member of the viticulture and fruit growing association of that time called Rihenberk, now called Branik.

In the late eighties we have decided to dedicate entirely to the culture of wine.

The first medal came from Gornja Radgona as an award for the Cabernet Sauvignon in 1995. This was the first bottled vintage produced by us.Many won medals and awards bear witness to our diligence, hard work, endurance and success.

The wine cellar is situated in the Branik Valley, next to the main road Sežana - Nova Gorica in the small village Steske.  The vineyards Colja extend on the sun side of the Branik Valley. Fertile, argillaceous,  marly ground and the interweaving mixture of the mediterranean and continental climate contribute to the highest quality of the wine.

Our slogan is:
Colja wines - wines of emotions. Harmonious and pleasant wines awaken all your senses, their full taste and their rich aroma offer you an unforgettable experience.

In the vineyards Colja there are about 60 % of white and 40 % of red sorts of vine. We cultivate about 6,5 ha of the vineyards with the traditional viticulture and lower burdening of the vine.

The following white wines are produced by us : Malvazija, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, autochtonic sorts Zelen, Pinela, Rebula, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Carni Rose is a sparkling wine produced by the classical method and isintended for festive  and special occasions.

In 1999 we built a new contemporary stone wine cellar.  We have settled a tasting place for 45 guests, and by previousannouncement a guided visit of the cellar and tasting can be organized there.
